The Activewear event at Bloomingdale’s – Dubai on Wednesday, 21 January 2016 brought together some of the most influential lifestyle experts in Dubai for a morning of fitness and fashion. Hosted by Lifestyle influencers Ruthie Fischer and Sally Matthews from Sand and Smoke Guests experienced the latest trends in athleisure and a customized juice bar by Essentially. “The development of the wellness and fitness scene in the UAE has gone from strength to strength.  We have seen a huge shift in how people embrace a healthy lifestyle locally. There is now a wealth of wellness knowledge within the local community, fitness concepts to suit any lifestyle, and of course options for activewear are at an international level. Seeing brands such as Bloomingdales – Dubai get involved in this community and recognize the demand in this market is really encouraging for the potential of the UAE wellness scene.” says Sally and Ruthie. The Bloomingdale’s – Dubai Activewear Department transformed into a yoga studio where popular Dubai-based yogi Jessica Olie hosted a 30 minute yoga session.  This was followed by a panel discussion between Tamara Ghazi – Chiropractor; Buffi Jashamal - personal trainer and Dr. Shefali Verma – Doctor of Integrated Medicine. Health Tips by experts Tamara Ghazi and Dr. Shefali Verma for keeping your New Year health resolutions: Dr. Shefali Verma “Consistency. Any changes you do to your lifestyle can only truly be judged when done consistently for a period of time. Once a week is not consistent; too often people try something randomly for a bit and decide it didn't work for them though they never really gave it a good enough go. You are not what you eat but what you absorb. Digestive enzymes are given more and more now to my patients as their digestive capabilities are less than ideal. The fast stressful lives we currently lead deplete our naturally occurring enzymes that may affect our own enzyme production and therefore our digestion. Similarly an important mineral that easily gets depleted is Magnesium. A mineral that is not as abundant in soil as it used to be also further worsens the situation. Magnesium is important for many bodily essential functions. It's important in maintaining good blood pressure, helps prevent muscle cramps, important in blood sugar balance, helps detoxification and important in adrenal health and general stress tolerance. Magnesium supplementation helps sleep quality. Set small achievable goals and celebrate their achievements. We are too hard on ourselves. It's ok to give yourself a pat on the back for little goals too. A goal is a goal no matter how big or small. "Learn to celebrate your achievements" is a common line said in my consultations.” Dr. Tamara Ghazi “Rest! In our fast paced environment where we spend lots of time driving in traffic, sleep and rest is so important. At least 7.5 hours is required for efficient training and for muscle recovery. Needing less sleep with age is a myth! Also try to get to bed around 10-11pm to wake around 7am to allow your body to work with its circadian rhythm, which means our metabolism is more efficient in sunrise and recovery when the sun sets.” Visit our Women’s Activewear Department on the First Floor, Bloomingdale’s – Dubai the Dubai Mall for signature styles and trends including racer backs, mesh, gym shorts and stripes, to capture that sports-day spirit.
